4. Additional Evaluations

~
~
00
(,0.)

The Colorado SCS Wetland Evaluation Procedures is being used
to track changes in wetland quality due to project
implementation. This evaluation generates a numerical value
from zero to one (zero being low in value, one being highest
in value) which represents the relational integration of
.functional . and habitat characteristics of a. particular.
wetland. At the present time this system is under revision,
so no wetland values will be presented in this report.
However, projected wetland acreage lost, altered or gained
(table 2, Appendix B) and the applied losses for the
monitoring contracts (table 2, Appendix C) are included in
the Appendix.

{>:::I

I

5. Tracking

A tracking system data base has been developed to record
cover types, wetland types and values, HSI's,HUV's and
contracted wildlife replacement practices by contract. A
summary table (for 1990-1992) and narrative for each
category can be found in Appendix Band C.

6. Field Data

Between 1990 and 1993, i40 CRSC contracts were cover type
mapped, habitat data was collected and HSI evaluations made
(1990-9 contracts, 1991-29 contracts, 1992-52 contracts,'
1993-50 contracts). To date this has been expected on all
contracts for existing, planned and applied conditions. A
comparison may then be made (once the contract has expired
and all. salinity control practices have been implemented) to
show any habitat changes. .Tables 1-5, Appendix B, reflect a
comparison of baseline information with anticipated planned
conditions.

..:.;:.,~.:.,
,r.:~~.,

Due to the increasing workload (contract numbers have
increased over the years) and loss of manpower it has been
decided by the state office that (statistically) cover
typing and evaluating two-thirds of the current years
contracts will accurately represent all contracts. The
results of the sampling will be extrapolated out to show
what a 100% sample would show. Since impacts to habitat
types are either too small to measure or only short term in
affect.it has been decided to not cover type and evaluate
group pipelines. However, wetland habitat will still be
evaluated for each contract to monitor wetland impacts..

12
