Proper management of individual irriga~ion events
requires a knowledge of improved water management
techniques; This can be accomplished best when.SCS
field office personnel can regularly work with
individual irrigators on a one on one basis during
the irrigation season so that producers will apply
water based on crop needs.

3. The SCS will need to follow-up on IWM design
information provided to the farmers. Determine if
recommended nozzle sizes, time of sets, etc. for the
new irrigation systems are appropriate and are being
applied.

4. Actual field soil moisture needs :0 be compared
with computer generated values using crop ET data
and appropriate adjustments made. There is a need
to obtain fast, reliable estimates of field soil
moisture conditions.

5. Data downloading, processing and evaluation is
being done using several computer programs. These
programs have been in place for several years but
problems are still being encountered. Existing
programs need. to be ~ompletely overhauled.

9
