In 1994, 58 percent of the kokanee were captured at
night while the majority (88%-96%) were collected in day samples in
1995 and 1996. There were adequate day/night samples in 1995 and 1996
to do a statistical analysis. Significantly more (P<.02) kokanee were
collected during day samples compared to night samples in 1995 and
1996 .

The 1994 kokanee entrainment rates were poorly correlated with dam
diSCharge and the short duration of sampling in 1996 had no
descriptive statistics performed. In 1995, both day (r=0.62, P=.0007)
and night fish entrainment rates (r=0.68, P=0.0005) were highly
correlated to dam discharge. Use of dam discharge and the entrainment
rate, a day and night linear regression were determined from the 1995
years data. The daytime regression was: Day rate of kokanee=
(.0000231 x Daily CFS )-.0266 with an r'=.54, and the night regression
was: kokanee night rate = (.0000085 x Daily eFS)-.0013 with an r'=.46.
A caveat on these equations is that r' indicates about 50 percent of
data variation could be attributed to non-flow related factors.
Unfortunately, this suggests that regressions should not be used
exclusively to estimate entrainment.

Table 1.
