A trrHORITY <br /> <br />This report is submitted in response to the following resolu- <br />tion, adopted 5 June 1951: <br /> <br />"RESOLVED BY TIlE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS OF THE <br />UNITED STATES SENATE, That the Board of Engineers for <br />Rivers and Harbors, created under Section 3 of the River <br />and Harbor Act, approved June 13, 1902, be, and is hereby, <br />requested to review the reports on the Kansas River and <br />tributaries, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas, contained in <br />House Document Numbered 642, Eighty-first Congress, Second <br />Session, and previous reports, with a view to determining <br />whether any modifications of the recommendations contained <br />therein are desirable at this time with respect to <br />Republican River and tributaries for flood control, bank <br />stabilization, and other purposes." <br /> <br />2. SCOPE <br /> <br />This report is of survey scope. It considers the flooding, <br />bank erosion, channel capacity, and related water problems of the <br />Republican River and its main tributaries under present and fore- <br />seeable future conditions. The investigation included public hear- <br />ings, a review of prior reports, hydrological studies, aerial <br />photography, field investigations and surveys, economic studies, a <br />reconnaissance by the District Engineer, and the development of a <br />plan of improvement.
