Adjustment to Coastal Flood, Wind and Erosion

Problems

Flood, wind ahd erosion threats to uses in

coastal hazard areas may be avoided'in one of ' three major

ways:

(1) construction of seawalls, levees, bulkheads,

groins, revetments, beach nourishment and other flood protec-

tive or erosion control works to reduce the flood and erosion

potential of backlying coastal areas; (2) protection of

i.r-rl ; "J1 !h~.~ 1 damB~e..'pr0~1e. However, open space use will

often not reduce erosion problems. Erosion will destroy

parks and wildlife areas as well as residential or commercial

uses. Therefore, beach maintenance may be necessary to

reduce erosion losses even for open space, use.

/.~. ..
;.}.t';:-
...:....
