The principal sediment d~age results from the
deposition of sediroent and other debris on la,ms. city streets,
and in buildings, as well as on irrigated cropland.

I
I

There are no critical sediment source areas within the watershed,
Sheet erosion is the main source of sediment with gully and stream-
bank erosion contributing minor amounts. Erosion damage is
negligible and occurs only over relatively small areas in the upper
Hatershed area,

I

The main stream channels are comparatively stable throughout
the watershed. Little or no degrading of the channels through
Limon is taking place, mainly because of the presence of culverts
and concrete bridge sills, The channels are underlain by alluvial
materials containing a high percentage of clay, and consequently
are relatively resistant to erosion, liinor amounts of bank cutting
have occurred locally along s~ne of the channels during extreQely
large flood flows,

I
I

Problems Relating to \Iater Hanaganent

I
I
I

There has been no expression of interest by the sponsors in
olJtaining >later storage facilities within the watershed area for
irrigation, municipal, or industrial uses or for recreation and
wildlife purposes. The annual water yield is not sufficient to
supply any large amount of pemanent ;later.

I
I

The Colorado Department of Gane and Fish has inspected the
watershed and reports that: "Although the development of a
fishery in this area is certainly desirable, neither the water
supply nor reservoir basin seemed adequate to warrant such
developloent in this project," The Bureau of Sport Fisheries and
Hildlife, Fish and Hildlife Service, concurs in the findings of
the Colorado Department of Game and Fish and believes that the
proposed developments will not significantly affect the fish and
l'Iildlife resources in the area. There are no drainage problems
in the watershed.

I

I
