Box 1580 Albuquerque, New Mexico 87103 Report of the Civil Works Activities of the Albuquerque District Corps of Engineers, in the Rio Grande Basin During Calendar Year 1980 1. 'GENERAL. During Calendar Year 1980, the Civil Works Activities of the Albuquerque District in the Rio Grande Basin consisted of construction, preconstruction planning and related purposes, water control, and providing flood plain management services to other concerned governmental agencies. 2. PLANNING. a. Abiquiu Dam. During calendar year 1980, efforts of the Abiquiu Reallocation/Rio Chama study were directed toward formulation of alternatives for water supply, flood control, hydropower, recreation, fish and wildlife, irrigation, and inereased channel capacity. The increased channel capacity alternative in the Rio Chama will address the feasibility of providing a 4,000 c.f.s. channel. Meetings were held with the National Weather Service regarding revised probable maximum snowpack for the Rio Chama above Abiquiu Dam. As a result, it was determined that the spillway at Abiquiu Dam should be enlarged to safely pass the revised probable maximum flood. Also, an analysis was performed to determine the future water supply needs for Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Espanola, and Bernalillo. Preparation of the Stage 2 Document reporting the results of alternative formulation continued. b. Rio Puerco - Rio Salado. Under authority of the Water Resources Development Act of 1976, we are conducting Phase 1 of Advanced Engineering and Design for possible water resource development on the Rio Puerco and the Rio Salado.
