SUSTAINED PRODUCTION AT 1942 LEVELS

1. While indioations are that the 1942 orop produotion goals
oan be attained, there remains one feot of extreme importanoe. . To
quote from the Deoember, 1941 report I .

"Of more importance than the a.ttainment of goals established
for the single year 1942, is the neoessity for a stabilized
and sustained production at a level at least equal to, and
probably greater than the 1942 requirements. If a stable
and sustained produotion at the level of 1942 goals is to be
maintained and if future goals call for f1.trther produotion
increases, the development and utilization of supplemental
water supply wi 11 be imperative."

2. Fortunately -the 1942 orop production goals set up by the
U, S. Departmen-t of Agriculture can be attained beoause of the above
average water supply conditions of the 1942 season. However, without
the stabilizing effeot of supplemental water supply to be f1.trnished by
Colorado-Big Thompson projeot, there is no assuranoe that oomparable
goals oan be reached in 1943 or subsequent years. Until oompletion of
the projeot, a below average water supply in any ooming year will mean
our tailed produotion of either sugaX' beets, other orops, oX' both.

-5-
