The Amity Mutual Irrigation Company

;)

President's Report

To The Stockholders Of The Amity

Mutual Irrigation Company

Ladies & Gentlemen,

1988 was again an excellent irrigation year for the Amity.
In June, the amount of water we had stored looked like it would
last through the 1st of August. Therefore, we lengthened the
runs to seventeen days, so we could run into the middle of
August. Any rumors you heard that we would run out of water
originated with the Board. This wasn't false information.
However, the river made enough water from June 1, 1988
through November 1, 1988 that we didn't use all our stored
water and we're even able to keep nearly one run to start this
coming year with. We felt it best you knew where we stood
storage wise, rather than be irrigating along and then suddenly
run out when August came.
Your present Board feels the Lamar Division of the canal
needs to be cleaned and brought up to full capacity to carry our
decree. Therefore, our crew has done considerable work again
this year in this area. I can, at least, see results when I drive up
the canal and I hope you can also.
We have joined with the other ditches of District #67, the
Fort Lyon Canal Co. and the Highland Canal in opposing the
Trinidad Dam Case. I'll let our Attorney fill you in on this mat.
ter. We have more than got the State of Colorado's attention.
Again this year the Board reviewed the budget regularly
and stayed within the eleven doilar assessment given us at the
Annual Meeting. However, we weren't able to do any capital
improvements or buy any machinery and luckily we didn't have
any canal breaks or emergency situations.
At the writing of this report, conditions along our entire
canal system are very dry. Therefore, please take care with any
spring burning. Hopefully this will change by Annual Meeting
Time.
As for the coming year's irrigation season we should have
approximately three runs to start with; one from the carryover
storage, one from the winter storage program and one from the
conservation pool. The snowpack looks normal at the writing
of this report.
I want to thank everyone I've worked with these past four
years.

Thank you,
Marvin Hamilton, Jr., President

Page 3
