<br />Rio Grande near Lobatos, Colo.
<br />
<br />Location.--Water-stage recorder, !at 37"05', long 105045', in sec.22, T.33 N., R.ll E., on right bank just down-
<br />stream from highway bridge, 6 miles north of Colorado-New Mexico State line, 10 miles east of Lobatos, and
<br />14 miles east of Antonito. Datum of gage is 7,426.79 ft above mean sea level, datum of 1929.
<br />
<br />Drainage area.--7, 700 sq mi, approximately (includes 2,940 sq mi in closed basin in San Luis Valley).
<br />
<br />AveraKe discharge.--62 years (1900-62), 633 cfs (458,300 acre-ft per year).
<br />
<br />Extremes.--1899-1962: Maximum discharge observed, 13,200 cfs June 8, 1905, (gage height, 9.1 ft), from rating
<br />cuve extended above 8,000 cis; no flow at times in 1950-51, 1956.
<br />
<br />Remarks.--Records good except those for winter months, which are fair. Natural flow of streams affected by
<br />trans mountain diversions, storage reservoirs, ground-water withdrawals and diversions for irrigation, and
<br />return flow from irrigated areas.

<br />Location.--Water-stage recorder, !at 36034'50", long 106043'30", in Tierra Amarilla Grant, 1.5 miles downstream
<br />from El Vade Dam, 2.7 miles upstream from Rio Nutrias, and 13 miles southwest of Tierra Amarilla, Rio
<br />Arriba County. Datum of gage is 6,696.12 ft above mean sea level, datum of 1929. Prior to October 1935, at
<br />site 1.5 miles upstream and October 1935 to September 1938, at site 1.1 miles upstream at different datum.

<br />Drainage area.--877 sq mi.
<br />
<br />Aver:t:e discharge.--4 years (1914, 1921-23), 444cfs prior to completion of dam; 27 years (1936-62) 390 cfs
<br />( 2,300 acre-ft per year) subsequent to completion of El Vado dam. .
<br />
<br />Extremes.--1914-16, 1920-24, 1936-62: Maximum discharge observed, 9,000 cIs May 22, 1920 (gage height, 12 it);
<br />no flow mar. 25, 26, 31, 1955.
<br />
<br />Remarks. --Records are good except those for Borne winter months, which are poor. Diversions above station for
<br />irrigation of about 8,000 acres. Since 1935 flow regulated by El Vado Reservoir.
