001814

F. South and West (right) side, State Avenue to Cole Park

The levee in this reach should be raised and widened to a uniform
cross section with riprap armouring. Due to the large number of
private ownerships in this reach, agreements should be obtained to
provide access to the levee system for maintenance and flood
fighting. Access control is also needed and should be designed to
be compatible with the private ownership needs.

Remova 1 of the sandbar at the bend in the river upstream of Col e
Park will assist with increasing the capacity of the river through
the reach.

Seepage concerns should also be addressed to determine the need
for special seepage control facilities.

G. North (left) side, North Tieback Levee (Riverwood Drive extended)
to State Avenue

Th is reach of the ri ver i ncl udes the golf course area and low
lying areas northwest of the golf course. The existing levee
should be raised upstream of the golf course to provide required
freeboard. Also, riprap protection should be placed at selected
locations along the levee where the river meanders impinge on the
levee, as during the June, 1985, flood.

Vegetation and sandbar removal in this reach would improve flow
characteristics of the river and reduce the need for additional
raising of the levee system.

I

Seepage control also needs to be evaluated and addressed during
final design.

H. South (right) side, Bell Avenue to State Avenue

,
l

Consideration should be given for seepage control through and
under the levee system in this area. This is discussed later in
this section. No other improvements are needed.

The levee in this area should be widened to a uniform cross
section and access control should be provided through private
properties. Seepage is not anticipated to be a problem, however
further evaluations should be made.

,

~

I. West and South (right) Side, North of LeRoy Street to Bell Avenue

-22-
