The reservoir will be located in
the south half of Section 36, Township 4 South, Range 70 West, and in the
north half of Section I, Township 5 South, Range 70 West, of the 6th Principal
meridian at the location shown on Fig, 1. Preliminary planning for the pro-
ject indicates the dam will impound about 2000 acre-feet of water, have a
crest length of about 1/2 mile, and a maximum height above the stream bed
of about 80 feet. An outlet structure will be located beneath the dam.
Our work was performed during the period May 31, 1977, through July,
1977, The object of our work was to determine the general soil and geologic
conditions existing within the reservoir, and at the dam site in order to
provide preliminary opinions regarding their influence on the design and
construction of the dam. The scope of our work was to include a geologic
reconnaissance and the drilling of one test boring on the dam axis.

Site Description
The site is on Bear Creek about one mile downstream from
Morrison, Colorado. The reservoir will impound water into an area
presently occupied by a few buildings, old gravel pit, and State
highway, Vegetation within the reservoir area consists of grass,
weeds, brush and trees. Bear Creek in this area has a gradient of
about 75 feet per mile and flows in a channel about 50 feet wide.
Gravel, cobbles and boulders line the stream bed. A newly constructed
4-lane roadway (not shown on Fig, 1), is present on the north abut-
ment, while the south abutment is in a level grassed pasture. A paved
access road is present near the north abutment (Old Morrison Road).
