United <br /> <br />states Census data on area irrigated in the basin follow: <br /> <br />1902 <br />1919 <br />1929 <br /> <br />3,005 Acres <br />5,830 " <br />4,222 " <br /> <br />Data for 1939 are not yet available but there was a reduction from 1929 <br /> <br />to about 3700 acres in 1938 <br /> <br />Existing Irrigation Works <br /> <br />Existing irrigation works in Colorado comprise 21 ditches from <br /> <br />the La Plata River and three reservoirs with a total capacity of <br /> <br />660 acre-feet. The principal reservoir is the Red Mesa, capacity <br /> <br />576 acre-feet, on Hay Gulch just above its junction with the La Plata <br /> <br />River. It is supplied mostly by Hay Gulch but occasionally water is <br /> <br />diverted fram the LaPlata River by a ditch of 20 second-feet capacity. <br /> <br />In )tew Mexico there are 13 ditches in useccnd one reservoir, <br /> <br />the Jackson, of }BO acre-feet capacity, an off-channel reservoir filled <br /> <br />by a diversion ditCh of the same name from the La Plata River. <br /> <br />3 <br />
