.0 ~ t8'1~ counties, Colorado, to be betvieen $4 and $6 per acre-foot. His

. analysis was based on the average value of all crops, by yoars, for the

actual area irrigated and the total water divert"d annually., November

to October, of each year, including precipitation for the same period.

The study was for the years 1925-1936. A similar study for the Trinidad

area involving the Baca, Johns, Hoehne, Model and Enlarged South Side

ditches shows a value of $5.00 per acre-foot of water diverted for the

same period. This is the gross value of crops produced. Production

on lands irrigated as obtained by field interviews is shown in Table 9.

Need for Supplemental Irrigation Supply

i
t
<.
,
L
,

As computed from diversion data, Table 2, for the period

1926-l937 for areas under five ditches receiving full water supply

and totaling l,500 acres on the average, the annual diversion require-

ment is found to be 3.l0 acre-feet per acre. The Hoehne Qnd Johns

.

Flood diversions are not included, since in the first instance the

irrigated area is underlain with gravel with heav-j demands on irriga-

tion water and in the second instance considerable water ((juantity

unknown) is diverted to the Model Reservoir. From a consideration

of temperature, precipitation, crops, soils, topography, and canal

losses the average annu,~l diversion requil'ement for the 14,800 acres

with yearly shortage is ostimated at fully 3.30 acre-feet per acre,

or 50 percent more than that now diverted.

Use of Supplemental Supply.

It is anticipated that crop distribution will not change

materially over that now obtaining. Alfalfa will no doubt continue

.

to be tho major crop. Sugar beet aoreage ,vill fluctuate widely as

in the past, in accordance with nnticipated. wnter supply and

other factors.

Generally this crop is grown on lands servod

37
