About 1600 acres <br /> <br /> <br />under the Hoehne Canal are underlain by porous gravel. Produc- <br /> <br /> <br />tion is not curtailed on this tract but the water requirements are <br /> <br /> <br />high, averaging about 4.8 acre-feet per acre diverted annually <br /> <br /> <br />since 1922.. On the Model tract, lands at the lower levels, but <br /> <br /> <br />well above the river, are alkaline, with soils ranging from heavy <br /> <br /> <br />cl,~y 100m to adobe. The remainder, served by the Model Canal, is <br /> <br /> <br />a clay loam. Where sufficient ,wte):' is obtainod, crop production <br /> <br /> <br />is excellent.. <br /> <br /> <br />Drainage Conditions <br /> <br /> <br />An inspection of the urea above Trinidad shows lunds to <br /> <br /> <br />be well drained. Bolow town parallel cl:nal:o of conSiderable capac- <br /> <br /> <br />ity have c&used low-.lying lands along the river to be seeped to <br /> <br /> <br />some extent. This area, however, is limited and recent agricultural <br /> <br /> <br />practices have restored some tracts to cultivation.
