<br />. <br /> <br />3037 <br /> <br />FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT <br /> <br />Pueblo Dam and Reservoir <br />Fryingpan-Arkansas Project, Colorado <br /> <br />Prepared by the Department of the Interior <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />Region 7 <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />This environmental statement is submitted in compliance with Section <br />102(2)(c) of Public Law 91-190, the National Environmental Policy <br />Act of 1969. It concerns construction of Pueblo Dam and Reservoir <br />and appurtenant features, and supplements the comprehensive Fryingpan- <br />Arkansas Project environmental statement scheduled for submission <br />to the Council on Environmental Quality in calendar year 1972. This <br />statement follows the guidelines set forth in the Bureau of Reclamation <br />Instructions, Series 350, General Instructions, Part 376 - Environmental <br />Quality - Preservation and Enhancement, Chapter 5, January 12, 1972. <br /> <br />A. Description of the Proposal <br /> <br />. Pueblo Dam and Reservoir is a major east slope feature of the <br />Fryingpan-Arkansas Project which was authorized under Public <br />Law 87-59a, and approved by the President on August 16, 1962. <br />Documentation is contained in House Document No. 187, 83rd Con- <br />gress, 1st Session, and House Document No. 353, 86th Congress, <br />2nd Session, as modified in the January 1960 reevaluation state- <br />ment. A brief description of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is <br />followed by a detailed description of Pueblo Dam and Reservoir <br />and appurtenant features. <br /> <br />1. Fryingpan-Arkansas Project <br /> <br />Shown on the Project Map, Figure 1, is the Fryingpan-Arkansas <br />multipurpose development in Colorado which will provide sup- <br />plemental irrigation water, flood control, municipal and <br />industrial water, hydroelectric power, recreation, fish and <br />wildlife enhancement, and produce other useful benefits. This <br />Project will substantially contribute toward meeting the National <br />and regional objectives for the protection and development of the <br />area's water and land resources. <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation is responsible for constructing, <br />operating, and maintaining the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. <br /> <br />. <br />
