<br />. <br /> <br />3061 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Wildlife mammals in the reservoir and the surrounding area <br />include: Skunk, Redfox, Coyote, Weasel, Mule and Whitetail <br />Deer, Muskrat, Cottontail, Jackrabbit, Bobcat, Pack Rat, <br />Badger, Antelope, Beaver, Racoon, Prairie Dog, and various <br />small rodents, The Black Footed Ferret historically occur- <br />red in the area. There are no known documentations on <br />recent occurrences of the species in the re~ervoir area. <br />Should this species be found, appropriate agencies will <br />be notified to assure its protection and preservation, <br /> <br />Birds inhabiting the area include: Golden Eagle, Bald <br />Eagle, Sparrow Hawk, Redtailed and Rough Legged Hawks, <br />Prairie falcon, Turkey Buzzard, Scaled Quail, Mourning <br />Dove, Great Blue Heron, several species of ducks and a <br />host of smaller birds including Blackbilled Magpie, Junco, <br />RObin, Starling, Flicker, Chicadee, Woodpecker, Raven, <br />Thrasher, Finch, and Sparrow. A more complete list of <br />wildlife is contained in Appendix D. <br /> <br />Although not a resident of this area, the Southern Bald <br />Eagle has been reported. There is no known documentation <br />of this species inhabiting or migrating through this area. <br />The Southern Bald Eagle is the only endangered species <br />known to occasionally migrate through this area. <br /> <br />There are no wildlife refuges, ranges or management areas <br />on or in the vicinity of the reservoir area, <br /> <br />f. <br /> <br />Recreation.--presently, recreation is limited to hunting <br />and fishing on private land and floating down the Arkansas <br />River in rafts, canoes, kayaks, and innertubes. Pueblo <br />residents usually seek their water-oriented recreation <br />activities at reservoirs located over 50 miles away. Lakes <br />are scarce in the region. There are no public recreation <br />facilities in the Pueblo reservoir area at the present <br />time, The City of Pueblo offers other recreation oppor- <br />tunities, such as swimming, picnicking, hiking, and play- <br />ground activities, in local parks and school yards. Most <br />of these facilities are not adequate to accommodate present <br />demands. <br /> <br />g. <br /> <br />S ecial Aesthetic Values Historical or Archeolo ical Sites.-- <br />The sparse tree an grass cover, t e lat r~ver attorn, an <br />eroded valley walls cut in the rolling high plains at the <br />reservoir site are typical of the Arkansas River Valley. <br /> <br />25 <br />
