AUTHORIZATION

The San Luis Vall~ Drain Committee for the Federal

Emergency Administration of Public >forks, under authority of appoint-

ment by Administrator Ickes, has considered the questions arising in

connection with the proposal to construct a drain in the trough or

s~mp of the closed basin of the San Luis Vall~ in Colorado, for the

purpose of developing or salvaging waters which are non-beneficially

consumed and leading them to discharge in the chnnnel of the Rio

Grande.

PROCEDURE

The San Luis Valley Drain Committee convened in Denver,

Colorado, on February 12, 1935, and proceeded immediately to a

study of the reports, estimates and other data in the files of the

Bureau of Reclamation.

On February 13, Mr. M. C. Hinderlider, state Engineer of

Colorado, and Mr. R. J. Tipton, who is specially employed by the

State as Engineering Consultant on the Son Luis V,,-lley YfOrk, called

for a conference with the committee, and on the srune evening the

Committee left for Alamosa for a field investigation in the valley.

of the ir rigated and drained area in the western pnrt of the valley

from thetown of Center south to Sonford. Through the courtesy of

Mr. Hinderlider, a state car was made available to the Committee

and Mr. Dan Jones of the State Engineer's Department, resident
