.

.

.

.

.

.

7.

G i}1 G ~ il

III

There is also the possibility that we will be able to relate phenomena

of the upper atmosphere to the high-altitude precipitation in the Basin. So far,

these efforts have shovm the reverse - that there is NO relationship. But with

improved data and with more data, perhaps some find ing s will be forthcoming. It

should be kept in mind, however, that negative findings are also important and

significant. These mean that with the limited state of our knmvledge, no such

relationship appears to be present. Thus, the assumption of randomness for the

series of precipitation record upon which the Colorado River run-off depends,

is valid given the present state of knowledge.

IV

We should also like to report that we have received splendid cooperation

in the Vlork of this project from the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the Upper

Colorado River Basin Commission, the Bureau of Reclamation and the United States

Geological Survey, as well as from individuals in the state offices and 1ll1i-

versities of the Upper Basin. On December 10, 1959, Mr. Ival Goslin, Engineer-

Secretary of the Upper Basin Commission, arranged for us to report on our pro-

posed project to the Engineering Committee and the Commissioners at a special

meeting in Denver. Mr. Vial ter Langbein of the United States Geologdical Survey

brought together a team of highly specialized technicians for a two-day con-

ference in Boulder on J1ll1e 1, 2, 1960.

We believe that these meetings have been
,

JJJUtually advantageous.

We have also completed an extensive bibliography of scientific publica-

tions relevant to the project area.
