Souder) <br /> <br />"The recreational facilities which the South Platte affords the casual <br /> <br />fishermen and the expert fly caster alike, as a fantastic stream capable of <br /> <br />withstanding heavy pressure year after year. Located within an hour's <br /> <br />drive from the maj or population area of the state, it prOvides one of the <br /> <br />most beautiful and prOductive fly fishing streams in the country. . . . <br /> <br />"The stream between Cheeseman Dam and the lower part of Waterton <br /> <br /> <br />Canyon is an excellent fishery, providing proper shelter, excellent natu- <br /> <br />ral food and spawning grounds along with the necessary water quality for <br /> <br />trou t . <br /> <br />"In contrast, the existance of the proposedreservoir would provide <br /> <br />at best, "poor" quality of fishing according to the Division of Wild Life <br /> <br />and supported by the Taliesin Report.... <br /> <br />"Another independent opinion has come from the Bureau of Outdoor <br /> <br />Recreation who have suggested that the stream has the potential for being <br /> <br /> <br />classified as a National Recreational River and that the area in general <br /> <br />might meet the requirements of a National Recreational Area. . . . <br /> <br />"The Division of Wild Life has been warning that the State is rapidly <br /> <br />losing feeding grounds to support wild life. The loss of 7000 acres to <br /> <br />;: <br /> <br />the proposed reservoir would add a substantial increase to this trend. The <br /> <br />.....;..,. <br />~:;?...< <br /> <br />.. ..... ..; <br /> <br />wild life in the area, although not really substantial, are significant and <br /> <br />;....--.... <br /> <br /> <br />
