SETTING

a) Description of the on-farm and delivery systems

A large number of off-farm delivery systems exist. There
are 2 federal and several private canal systems. Some group
systems are incorporated; however, many are not. Size of
systems varies from 2 members to over 100 members. Most of
these are currently earthen ditches but approximately 11
systems are currently being or are contracted to be concrete
lined or replaced with underground pipeline.

Many on-farm systems are also earthen ditches with few or no
improvements. Numerous farms have concrete ditch lining and
underground pipeline installed prior to initiation of LGCU.
Approximately 84 contracts show planned or implemented
system improvements.

b) Description of the monitoring sites

site 10
cooperator: Ray Hawkins and son farm acres: 306 (cropland)
location: Delta County - miles West of Delta on Hwy 65
field acres: 22 crop: Beans
soils: Billings silty clay loam with 2% slope
irrigation system: Underground pipeline to gated pipe
inflow monitoring equipment: signet mightymag flow meter
with omnidata easylogger
outflow monitoring equipment: Broadcrested weir, stilling
well, flow sensor with omnidata 312 datapod.
soil moisture monitoring: Readings taken using gypsum
blocks and Bouyoucos moisture meter.
Site 17
cooperator: Grett Dairy farm acres: 536 (cropland)
location: Montrose County 2 miles Northeast of 01athe on
County Road - Carnation
field acres: 58 crop: Corn
soils: Billings silty clay loam with 1% slope
irrigation system: Underground pipeline to gated pipe
inflow monitoring equipment: stilling well with flow sensor
and omnidata 219 datapod.
