THE NIRAP MODEL

A. HISTORY

The National-Inter-regional Agricultural Projections (NIRAP) System was
developed in response to the need for basic economic information by public
agencies engaged in comprehensive planning for the use, management. and
development of the nation's water and related resources. It was developed
as a part of a larger project which had the purpose of providing projec-
tions of economic activity in the U.S. Original work was carried out under
a cooperative agreement with the Water Resources Council through cooper-
ation between the Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Department of Commerce
and the Economic Research Service (ERS), USDA, with assistance from the
Forest Service. This research was initiated in 1964.

11-1
