<br />Location.-~Water-stage recorder, tat 37004'42", long 105045'22", in sec. 22, T. 33 N., R. 11 E., on right bank at highway bridge,
<br />6 mi north of Colorado-New Mexico State line, 10 mi east of Lobatos, and 14 mi east of Antonito. Datum of gage is 7,427.63 It
<br />above mean sea level, datum of 1929.
<br />Draina~e area.-~7,700 sq mi, approximately (includes 2,940 sq mi in dosed basin in San Luis Valley).
<br />Avera~e discharlle.--31 years (1900-30), 846 f~ /s (612,900 acre-ft per year); 70 years (1931-2000) 449 f~ /s (325,300 acre-ft per
<br />year).
<br />Extremes.-1B99-2000: Maximum discharge observed, 13,200 f~ /s June B, 1905 (gage height, 9.1 ft), from rating curve extended
<br />above 8,000 f2/s; no flow at times in 1950-51,1956.
<br />Remarks.--Records good except those for winter months, which are fair. Natural flow of stream affected by transmountain
<br />diversions, storage reservoirs, ground.water withdrawals and diversions for irrigation, and return flow from irrigated areas.

<br />mean sea level. Prior to Apr. 1,1971, at site 900 ft downstream.
