Samples are also taken from <br />canals at certain points in the Stage One area. <br />Results from the water quality testing are used to <br />assess the effectiveness of Stage One development <br />in reducing salt loading to the Colorado River. <br />Wildlife resources are also being monitored in the <br />Stage One area to determine the effects of the <br />development on wildlife habitat and populations. <br /> <br />Throughout the rest of the valley data-gathering <br />is underway to determine the nature and extent of <br />salt loading to the Colorado River. This includes <br />flow measurements and sampling of all major washes <br />and drains plus selected canals and laterals, <br />drilling and pump testing to determine ground- <br /> <br />Grand Valley Unit, Stage Two <br />Newsletter - January 1983 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />water transmissivity; sampling and water level <br />recordings from an extensive valleywide network of <br />wells; and computation of water and salt budgets for <br />the entire valley and for 17 sub-basin areas. <br /> <br />A cultural resources survey to be conducted by <br />Colorado State University's Laboratory of Public <br />Archeology, is scheduled to begin in spring 1983. <br /> <br />Thanks <br />The Bureau of Reclamation thanks all those who <br />attended the scoping meetings.
