<br />construetion of the $600 millIon facility in
<br />1984, Girts Krumins, eompany president,
<br />said MondllY. .
<br />. Colorado-Ute had been stud~!Ig two 10- .
<br />cations, the Maeksite 25 miles west of
<br />Grand Junetion and a site near Delta. Kru-
<br />mins'said the \ItiJity's bOard voted unani-
<br />mously in favorofthe Maek site.. .
<br />Prior to construetion, Colorado-Ute
<br />must obtain 2,400 . acres Of .land .from the
<br />Bureau tit Land Management, hold publie
<br />. heafings and obtain numerous permits, he

<br />Krumins said that if the BLM declines to
<br />sell the land, or if other eomplications'
<br />develop, the eoinpany may decide to build
<br />. the power plant in Delta.

<br />its proXimity to a coal mine_ in ,Garfield
<br />County whieh is jointly owned by Colora-

<br />railroad about seven miles . from the mine
<br />to the plant, he said. . .

<br />plant will. use. 8,000. aer~feet of water

<br />The proposed power plant would supply
<br />the eleetricity needs of the eompany's 14
<br />member cooperatives. . Krumins estimated
<br />eonstruetion cost at $600 million and said
<br />no rate. hikes are planned to finance the
<br />project.
