Development of one <br />mine in the southeastern portion of the WSA <br />is projected to occur as a result of valid <br />existing rights. <br /> <br />The backcountry recreation setting would be <br />maintained except in the vicinity of <br />projected mineral development where it <br />would be affected by the sights and sounds <br />of mining activity. It is expected that in the long <br />term wilderness values would eventually be <br />lost on the entire 4,710 acres. <br /> <br />The enti re WSA would remain open to mineral <br />entry with production of base and precious <br />metals projected. <br /> <br />The exi st i ng backcountry rec reati on setti ng <br />waul d remain except where al tered by <br />mineral development. Use of the area would <br />increase over the existing 1500 RUDs by <br />about 5 percent annually. <br /> <br />Mineral development would result in a loss <br />of soil productivity on up to 40 acres and <br />a reduction in water quality in Henson <br />Creek. <br /> <br />Bill Hare Gulch (CO-030-085) <br /> <br />Proposed Action (No Wilderness Alternative) <br /> <br />None of the 370 acres would be recommended <br />as suitable for wilderness. <br /> <br />Wilderness values. which exist only in <br />conjunction with the adjacent Big Sl ue <br />Wilderness, would not receive legislative <br />protection. However. since the area has <br />low mineral potential and no developments <br />are predicted, wilderness values are not <br />likely to exceed 100 RUDs annually. <br /> <br />All Wilderness Alternative <br /> <br />The enti re 370 acres would be recommended <br />as suitable for designation. <br />
