In 1951, the Secretary <br />of the Interior ordered that the city be <br />separated from the Boulder Canyon Proj- <br />ecf and incorporated under the laws of <br />Nevada. After several years of study and <br />preparation. Congress approved the <br />Boulder City Act of 1958. giving thc <br />Secretary pemlission to dispose of the <br />city. The community's citizens over- <br />whelmingly approved a charter providing <br />for incorporation, which was effective <br />October. 1959. Approximately 2 months <br />later, after 29 years of Federal control, <br />the Bureau of Reclamation transferred <br />ownership to some 33 square miles; <br />municipal electric, water, and sewer <br />systems; municipal buildings; streets, <br />sidewalks and curhs: parks and parkways. <br />and other equipment and property to <br />Boulder City's government.
