<br />Return Flow - That portion of the water diverted from a stream which <br />finds its way back to the stream channel either as surface or <br />underground flow. <br /> <br />Salmonids - Of or belonging to the family Salmonidae which includes <br />trout, salmon, and whitefishes. <br /> <br />Salinity - Usually considered to be the sum of all the dissolved salts <br />in water, which is analytically defined as total dissolved solids <br />(TDS). Common salts include sodium, calcium, sulfates, carbonates, <br />and magnesium. <br /> <br />Salinity Control Plan - That portion of the conservation plan that <br />addresses the required practices for physical control, management, <br />and use of related water and land resources to accomplish salinity <br />reduction. <br /> <br />Salt Loading - The pickup of salt from a natural material by water. <br /> <br />SCA - Represents Salinity Control Act and Amendments. <br /> <br />SCC - Salinity Coordinating Committee. <br /> <br />SCP - Salinity Control Plans. <br /> <br />SCS - Soil Conservation Service. <br /> <br />Sodbuster Provisions - Part of the FSA of 1985 aimed at discouraging the <br />conversion of highly erodible land for agricultural production. <br /> <br />Sprinkler Irrigation - Irrigation system in which water is applied by <br />means of perforated pipes or nozzles operated under pressure so as <br />to form a spray pattern. <br /> <br />Structural Improvements - Engineering works, exclusive of land treatment <br />and management measures, designed to improve irrigation water <br />application and efficiency. <br /> <br />Swampbuster Provisions - Part of the FSA of 1985 aimed at cliscouraging <br />the conversion of wetland for agricultural purposes. <br /> <br />Terrestrial Habitat - Wildlife habitat pertaininp to land as distinct <br />from water or water influenced land. <br /> <br />Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) - The total dissolved mineral constituents <br />of water.
