Wyoming 82901 - Phone (307)362-5101
1695 Sunset Drive

4 May 1984

To All Interested Parties:

In March of this year, the Big Sardy Conservation District Board of Supervi-
sors were faced with a stardstill in their efforts to prorrote on-fam inprovements
to control the salinity of the Big Sardy River.

All parties involved - the lardCl'wllers and local, state, and federal officials _
recognized that on fam inprovements appeared to be a reasonable approach to the
problem. A coordination of efforts among aU the agencies concerned was and re-
mains to be a stumbling block.

In March of 1983 the Big Sandy Conservation District applied to the Soil Con-
servation Service for assistance under the Watershed Protection and Flood Preven-
tion Act (PL 83-566.)

In February of 1984, the District learned that its application had not been

recomr.ended for a I1UIIIber of reasons, one of which is as follows:

'''The SCS should not consider any further planning unless state and
local interests dellDllStrate without question that irrigators can
afford a 25 percent cost share and maintenance responsibilities of
the rost cost-effective on farm measures. II .

Responding to this qualification, the Board once again went to the irrigated
landowners in Eden Valley - this time with a questionnaire. Attached you will find
the results of that survey. We hope you find it enlightening.

S~,rely ,.
~( 4 ,n:z.<-J 71Y'/.;t L-

s Hodder, ChalITlIan
ig Sandy Conservation District

cc: Jack Barnett
Dan Budd
George Christopulos
Bill Gentle
Dick Hartman
Governor Ed Herschler
Duane Klarrm
Don Nelson

John Niland
John Orton
Paul Schweiger
Lou Wenze 1
Warren lmte
Sweetwater County Corrndssioners
Sweetwater County Legislators
Wyoming National Legislators

C ~.>11 ~ J

COI~SEAVATION .
