APPENDIX

f,,;)

STATE OF WYOMING
OFFICI!: OF THE GOVERNOR
CHEYENNE 82002

m HERSCHlEl
GOVERNOR

August 20, 1985

c.'

Mr. Frank Dickson
State Conservationist
Soil Conservation Service
Federal Building
100 East B. Street, Room 3124
Casper, WY 82601

Dear Mr. Dickson:

My staff has reviewed the updated information on the
~ preliminary project implementation plan for the Big Sandy
salinity control project and advise me that it appears to be a
cost effective approach to salinity reduction when coupled with
the plans of the Bureau of Reclamation. Further, it appears that
.~ this approach will provide improved crop yields to the
~, individual landowners in the project. Therefore, I am requesting
that the Soil Conservation Service develop an on-farm
implementation plan for the Big Sandy salinity control project.
Additionally, there are state funds available to provide for
loans to assist either the district or individual irrigators who
desire to participate in this project.

In closing, I would also urge that the high level of
cooperation between the Service, the Bureau of Reclamation and
the state continue so that we will be able to resolve the
salinity problem in the Big Sandy drainage.

~
, EH/wwt
h

,~
r;,,:

f~

~

.."

, 1''''-
i.,....'. 1.
