At present a suit involving water rights of <br />Nambe, Tesuque, Pojoaque, and San Ildefonso Pueblos- is <br />under appeal; New Mexico has initiated a suit to quantify <br />rights of the United States on its own behalf and on <br />behalf of its Indian wards to water from the Pecos River <br />(Mescalero Apache Tribe); similar suits for other pueblos <br />in the Rio Grande Basin are being considered. <br /> <br />Problem Area 2, ASA's 1302 and 1304. <br /> <br />Problems developing in area number two (2) deal with raoid <br />urban expansion. Unless positive steps are taken to counteract <br />these developments, negative effects will continue in the form of: <br /> <br />1. Need for improved urban streets and highways. <br /> <br />2. Need for urban recreation. <br /> <br />3. Need for flood control. <br /> <br />4. Need for greenways. <br /> <br />5. Need for water supply. <br /> <br />6. Need for preserving prime agricultural lands. <br /> <br />Problem Area 3, ASA 1302. <br /> <br />Unless positive steps are taken to reduce problems of flooding, <br />sedimentation, and salinity in the hydrologic area of the Rio Grande <br />negative effects will continue in the form of: <br /> <br />1. Dissolved solid loads will continue to effect the quality <br />of surface fJows. <br /> <br />2. Urban flooding - 4 conmunities (Grants, Espanola, Santa <br />Fe, Truth or 'Consequences). <br /> <br />3. Rural flooding - approximately 30 communities. <br /> <br />4. Siltation of canals, laterals, farm distribution systems, <br />stream channels and reservoirs. <br /> <br />5.
