Management should be designed to minimize unnecessary conflict with <br />other land and resource uses. <br /> <br />34. Establish miaratorv DODulation. <br /> <br />Test the guide bird technique as a means of introducing captive-produced whooping <br />cranes into a migratory situation. Test other means of teaching captive-produced birds <br />how to migrate and survive in the wild. These might include socially bonding whooping <br />cranes using ultralight aircraft to guide birds along a predetermined migration route. <br />Monitor the released birds to gather data on habitat use, movements, mortality factors, <br />nesting success, and other data crucial to release success. Periodically evaluate <br />release success. <br /> <br />4. Maintain an information/education Drooram. <br /> <br />The Service, in conjunction with other agencies, should implement a public information and <br />education program to further the well-being of the whooping crane. Under this program, <br />general information will be provided and interest will be generated in the species. <br /> <br />41. DeveloD media oroducts. <br /> <br />Printed and audio-visual media that are disseminated widely can be very effective in <br />spreading important messages regarding recovery efforts and needs. These media can <br />target various segments of the public and specific needs of the recovery program. <br />Encourage collaboration between the various agencies and organizations that have <br />specific responsibilities or interests in whooping crane recovery. <br /> <br />42. Provide viewino oooortunities. <br /> <br />Provide opportunities for the public to view whooping cranes near major use areas <br />wherever such viewing does not interfere with the well-being of the cranes. <br />
