Mex. <br />Location.--Water-stage recorder, lat 36<>34'48", long 106<>43'24", in Tierra Amarilla Grant, 1.5 miles <br />downstream from El Vado Dam, 2.8 miles upstream from Rio Nutrias, and 13 miles southwest of <br />Tierra Amaril1a, Rio Arriba County. Datum of gage is 6,696.12 ft above mean sea level, datum of <br />1929. Prior to October 1935, at site 1.5 miles upstream and October 1935 to September 1938, at <br />site 1.1 miles upstream at different datum. <br />Drainaqe area.--877 sq mi. <br />Averaqe discharqe.--4 years (1914, 1921-23), 444 ft3/s prior to completion of El Vado Dam; 35 years <br />(1936-70), 372 ft3/s (269,500 acre-ft per year) subsequent to completion of El Vado Dam; but <br />9 years (1971-79) 374 ft3/s (27I,OOO acre-ft per year) sUQsequent to completion of Heron Dam <br />and Azotea tunnel. <br />Extremes.--1914-16, 1920-24, 1936-79: Maximum discharge observed, 9,000 ft3js May 22, 1920 (gage <br />height, 12 ft); no flow Mar. 25, 26, 31, 1955. <br /> <br />Remarks.--Records good. Diversions above station for irrigation of about 8,000 acres. Altitude <br />of gage is 6,040 ft (from river-profile map and topographic map). <br />Drainaqe area.--2,147 sg mi of which about 100 sq mi is probably noncontributing. <br />Averaqe discharqe.--18 years (1962-79), 400 ft3js (289,800 acre-feet per year). <br />Extremes.--1961-79: Maximulll discharge, 2,990 ft3js July 1, 1965 (gage height, 6.69 ft); minimum <br />about 0.5 ft3/s Mar. 17, 1966. <br /> <br />Remarks.--Records good except those for winter months, which are fair. Flow regulated by Heron, <br />El Vado, and Abiquiu Reservoirs.
