Field work was in progress on several ground-
water projects, and analysis of samples was kept current,

~~~{~(~
'.i:~.}?:
;--~: :-:'~;.,
;'~~::;::::'!.'~
Sediment Investigations
t;![~(~
f.~;~1~~
,',.;-......-
~t~:~~~
~,~;~~
II
*[;1~i~
/i;i~~
i~\~~:~
The preparation and review of reports was intensified considerably,
including work on compilation of basic records for the 1957 and 1958 water
years, and work on special reports for six river sub-basins and several ground-
water projects, Preliminary data for the 1957 and 1958 water years were
released to interested agencies in the Basin.
Chemical-quality investigations in progress under the regular program
of the Geological Survey included operation of ten continuous-type stations in
the Federal irrigation network, and collection of data under cooperative pro-
grams with the States of Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
The sediment investigations supported by Missouri River Basin project
funds were increased in response to needs for information and an increase in
funds for the fiscal year. Several changes in station operations were accom-
plished, and station operations during the quarter were as follows: Continuous
record, 13 (a year ago, 12), monthly sampling, 8 (a year ago, 6), intermittent
sampling, 6 (a year ago, 0), Included were two stations in the Wind River sub-
basin operated as a part of the Departmental Wind River program and supported
by funds transferred from the Bureau of Reclamation. Studies of total sediment
load in Five Mile Creek also were supported by the Bureau of Reclamation,
Work on the preparation and review of reports was increased consider-
ably, including compilation of basic records for 1957 and 1958 water years, and
special reports for five sub-basins,
Sediment investigations in progress under the regular program of the
Geological Survey included studies of the trap efficiency of one detention
reservoir in Ne,braska and one in Colorado and operation of one station in Iowa
and two in Colorado in collaboration with the Soil Conservation Service. Co-
operative programs with the States of Kansas and Wyoming were continued,
.'
Frank C.
