In February of this <br />year, Ihe board requested funds from Reclamation <br />to cover any costs that would be incurred by the <br />District while determining the water users' interest <br />in participaling. Reclamalion has signed an agreemenl <br />wilh the board to pay for their expenses, legal counsel, <br />maiIouls, and other costs of informing you aboul the <br />program and your options. <br /> <br />History of our involvement in salinity <br />control program <br /> <br />Over the years, we've lined portions of Ihe Price <br />Ditch and the lateral users have lined portions of <br />their ditches. We now have the opportunity, through <br />Reclamalion's salinity conlrol program, 10 line <br />addilional laterals al no cost for construction. The <br />lining work was aulhorized by Congress through the <br />Colorado River Basin Salinily Control Act. <br /> <br />Did you know that the population in <br />Mesa County in 1900 was only 9,267? <br /> <br />Aerial photography work completed <br /> <br />Reclamation has asked Ihe board if we would be <br />willing 10 represenl Ihe waler users in delermining <br />how the laterals could be improved. We feel that <br />we have an overall picture of the delivery needs <br />of the water users and are qualified and legally <br />able to represenl your interests. <br /> <br />Recently, you may have seen one of Reclamation's <br />survey crews painting lines and circles on the ground <br />on Ihe east end of the valley. These markers were <br />required to oblain aerial pholographs of PID's <br />service area. The photographs will help to identify <br />where the laterals go and who lives adjacent to them. <br />
