The Yampa River study areas were also very low gradient and precision in the <br />channel profile is very important in order for the model to successfully run. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS AND ADJUSTMENTS TO STUDY DESIGN <br /> <br />I, An RTK GPS system was purchased with the intent of decreasing the time needed <br />to survey portions of the river channel. The new system will use a GPS to give a <br />position and an echo sounder to give a depth for that position. This system will <br />be tested in the 1999 field season in the IS-mile reach of the Colorado River. If <br />successful and efficient the study area of the Colorado River should be mapped in <br />July 1999. This system will also be used to survey portions of the representative <br />reaches of the Duffy and Sevens sites in July 1999. <br /> <br />2. I am considering adding a third study site to the Yampa River in the Lily Park <br />area. This site has the highest proportion of native fish in the Yampa River. The <br />addition of this site will depend on funding and time constraints and will be <br />tentatively added to the 2000 field season. <br /> <br />The hydraulic modeling was contracted with Colorado State University, the <br />Department of Earth Resources. The contract was administered and supervised by Dr. <br />Ellen Wohl and Greg Stewart perfonned the work for a M.S. project. Greg supervised <br />the habitat quantification portion in the field and performed the hydraulic modeling. I <br />greatly appreciated the enthusiasm and energy Greg put into this study and the long <br />hours he spent on learning and calibrating the SMS model. District Wildlife Managers, <br />Brad Petch and Chuck Woodward, were very helpful and provided valuable assistance <br />and information concerning landowners and logistics. I am very grateful to Tom <br />Deacons who allowed us access to the river on his property in the Duffy area. Also, I <br />would like to thank the Cross Mountain Ranch and Phil George for allowing access to <br />the Sevens Ranch for habitat surveying and the other property owners on the river that <br />granted us access for electrofishing. <br /> <br />22 <br />
