Almost one half the world's population is now aligned against us on this question.

The Communists promise that the political state will wither away and that the lion will
lie down with the lamb, Marx asserts that all problems stem from economics, and if you go
their socialistic, totalitarian way, the millenium will have been achieved. But let me
propose a fallacy in Marx' thesis. He holds that the economic problem is what complicates
human relations in the world today. Russell Kirk points;out that actually the economic
problem blends into the political problem, and the political problem into the ethical
problem, and the ethical problem into the religious problem.

The enemy in our land can sometimes be found to be ourselves because, if we don't
know what we stand for, we can fall for anything".

.

.,;

There will always be deviates from any norm, There will always be sinners. That is
the paradox at theroo\ of man's own human nature. Sometimes I think that the great
error or fault or problem is to sin and not know one is sinning.

I'm going to try to show that each of us can help the Communist unwittingly. That
in each of us there are inclinations to accept their preachments, That the people they have
fooled are not stupid people, necessarily. I n fact, many of them are people very much like
us, and we can be next and never really know it.

I n fact, a friend of mine has said... "the point of no return in this country can well
have been reached already, " .

One of the significant things today is that in ou r p~radoxical world we find the
Communist preaching materialism and even a disregard for the eternal verities I've been
taught to admire more honestly than the world's great Christian Nation preaches idealism,
wh ile we practice materialism to a much greater extentthan ever before.

The primary question of today seems to me to pe wHether we really believe that men
should be honest and decent. I n other words, do we honestly believe the precepts that we
hear from our pUlpits each Sunday. And on this simple! fulcrum hangs in balance the
future of not only oUr world today, but the world that ou!r children will inherit tomorrow.

I was shocked recently by an article in a magazine called "Modern Office Procedures".
The cover feature is titled "How To Get The Boss's Job," .

J

The article say~:

"The blackjack :gets more people to the top of the m$nagement heap than you care
to think. A knife in the back gets you ahead just as fast... and often faster....
as hard work, honest 'land fair dealing. Employees, seething with ambition,
put a cutting edge on the honest tools of promotion and ruthlessly club their

.!

- 22 -
