In lieu of drilling a well and transfer of water rights from <br /> <br />the Emperious property, the acquisition of this tract would provide the required <br /> <br />water and lands for wildlife use. The Refuge would utilize the water to irri- <br /> <br />gate land included in the purchase. Irrigation of wet meadows would be con- <br /> <br />tinued as currently practiced. Development of this land for wildlife use would <br /> <br />be minimal. Water control structures would be replaced by the Refuge .and fences <br /> <br />repaired. <br /> <br />Annual maintenance costs would be the responsibility of the Refuge. The :Refuge <br /> <br />would be responsible for O&M of the diversion structure on the Rio Grande and <br /> <br />annual O&M on 3 additional miles of ditch from the diversion point to the Refuge <br /> <br />boundary. <br /> <br />B.
