<br />t- <br />(..n <br />,-"-1 <br />.........-4 <br /> <br />"I.,,', <br />\:-,( <br /> <br />I....) <br /> <br />(.:;" <br /> <br />EVAPCRATION AND ffiECIPITATION <br /> <br />The last paragraph of' Article VI of the Compact states, in part, -. <br />nsuch credits and debits shall be reduoed ennually to oompensate for evapora- <br />tion losses in the proportion that suoh oredits or debits bear to the total <br />amount of' water in such reservoirs during the year,n <br /> <br />To provide the data needed f'or the computet ion of such evaporation <br />losses the Commission has encouraged the establishment aM operation of <br />evaporation stations near each major reservoir in the basin as well as at <br />other selected locations. <br /> <br />Evaporation and precipitation records !'rom stations in Colorado and New <br />Mexico are tabulated on the following page, At some of the stations in the <br />higher elevations it Was not possible to obtain evaporation records through- <br />out the \'linter period. <br /> <br />The measurements of evaporation were made in accordance with standard <br />practice for the type of pan in use. Measurements of precipitation were made <br />in standard ~inch rain gar.es, which were supplemented at some stations by re- <br />cording rain gages. For both evaporation and preoipitation the unit 01' meas- <br />ure is the inch. <br /> <br />Records for the evaporation stations at Agricultural College, Elephant <br />Butte Dam and El Va do Dam antedated the creation of the Commission; the station <br />at BoSque del Apache was installed 1'01' the U, S, Fish and Wildlife Service. All <br />others were established at the request of the Commission. <br /> <br />The Rio Grande Compact Commission gratefully acl<nowledges the oooperation <br />of the U. S'.
