It is
also pointed out that the cost of steel water reservoirs is increasing f<tster
than that of concrete reservoirs.

PUMPING IMPROVEMENTS

In the basement of the Public Works Building is located the Pump that pumps
water from th<;l Wells 1, 2, and 3 to the elevated water tank. Also located in .'
this basement ,is a stand-by pump and motor for the main pump, however,
the existing motor is burnt out, and therefore this pump is not usable a.s a
stand-by as intended. The operation of the main pump is such that when the
operator decides to pump water from Wells 1, 2, and 3 to the elevated tank,
he must manually pr,ess the start pump button, manually open the discharge
gate valve on this pump and then fill the tank to the desired level. Alter this
level has been reached, the operator must then manually close the gate valve
again and press the stop button on the pump for the pump to shut-down. This
operation is all manual and requires that the operator visually observe when
he needs to fill the elevated tank and then manually start and stop this pump
at the required times.

,,'
,,-,

The City should consider automating this pumping operation. This could be
accomplished briefly as follows:

a. Replace ~he existing swing check valve on the discharge
side of the pump with a pump control valve, which has
controlled opening and closing features.
