"no' '-,
\.~:.J li .)
'NARROWS DAM RIVER OUTLET -
vs
JACKSON lAKE - RIVERSIDE CANAL

. AClvance Copy
, Subject To Ad,'ustme t
RIVERSIDE CANAL n

I,

The January 1967 report on the Narrows Unit, Colorado, discussed
f'i~e "deferred potentia1ities.". One of these was a plan to pump 150
ft /s from the Narrows 'Dam River Outlet to the'Riverside Canal (the
Riverside P1an, see exhibit 1). This plan would pump 17,000 acre-feet
of supplemental water annually and enable the Riverside service area to
be increased from 22,909 acres to approximately 27,000 acres and improve
from 75.5 percent to 36.2 percent the computed requirement. The River-
side service area is not included in the Lower South Platte Water
Conservancy District.

Durin9 1963, a cost estimate was prepared for a plan to pump 105 ft3/s
from Jackson Lake to the Riverside Canal (the Jackson Lake Plan). The
Jackson Lake pumping plant was located on the west side of the lake, in
section 21, T. 5 N., R. 60 W. (see exhibit 2). A reconnaissance Basic
Estimate DC-l has been found. Little else is known about this plan.

. The Biceritennial Study

During May 1976, these two plans were "dusted off" and a cursory
analysis was executed.

A summary of the results of the analysis are shown on table 1. Four
. plans are shown:

1.' Riverside Plan--150 ft3/s. This is the January 1967 plan with
costs updated to January 1976.

2.' Riverside Plan--176 ft3/s. The January 1967 plan was modified
to permit pumping 20,000 acre-feet annually and updated to
January 1976 costs.

3.. Jackson Lake Plan--150 ft3/s. The 1963 plan was modified to
permit pumping 17,000 acre-feet annually. A new estimate was
prepared using January 1976 prices.

4. Jackson lake Plan--176 ft3/s. The 150 fi3/s plan was modified
to permit pumping 20,000 acre-feet annually using January 1976
prices.

The pumping plants would be in operation during the irrigation
season. Most of the pumpin9 would occur during July and August.

It is reasonable to assume water diverted into Jackson Lake via
the Jackson Lake Inlet Canal during the irrigation season would maintain
the 25,400 acre-feet capacity in the lake to fulfill recreation and fish
and wildlife needs.
