<br />000614 <br /> <br />Rural Domestic <br /> <br />Ground-water quality for rural domestic uses in most of the area included <br /> <br />in the Western Dakotas Subbasin does not meet national drinking water standards. <br />The quantity of water for rural domestic supply is insufficient in the Bad <br />River Basin.. <br /> <br />South Dakota counties of ziebach, Perkins, and Dewey and the Cheyenne <br /> <br />Indian Reservation have poor water quality and insufficient water quantity for <br />domestic and livestock purposes. <br />Seismic exploration for oil and other minerals is causing or contributing <br />to the loss or impairment of rural domestic wells in North Dakota. <br /> <br />POWER AND ENERGY <br /> <br />Hydroelectric Power Production <br /> <br />There is an opportunity to add additional units to the existing dams and <br />to place same additional pump-back storage hydropower units on the Missouri <br />River and along main stem reservoirs to meet peak energy needs. <br /> <br />Opportunities exist for water development in western South Dakota for <br /> <br />energy and other industrial uses. <br /> <br />WATER-ASSOCIATED OUTDOOR RECREATION <br /> <br />Water Level Fluctuations <br /> <br />Water management practices at the Missouri River main stem reservoirs <br /> <br />often cause lowered recreational opportunities and the loss of aquatic habitat. <br />Water Access <br /> <br /> <br />There is a shortage of public access points at Lakes Sakakawea and Oahe in <br /> <br /> <br />North Dakota for water-oriented recreation uses. <br /> <br /> <br />Lack of Facilities <br /> <br /> <br />There is a shortage of water-oriented recreation facilities in the <br /> <br />Cheyenne River Basin. <br /> <br />H-1S <br />
