J _..'~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PART IlL IRRIGATED AREAS <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Irrigated areas in the La Plata River basin were identified through inspec- <br /> <br /> <br />tion of aerial photographs obtained from the U.S. Department of Agriculture- <br /> <br />Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. The photographs were <br /> <br /> <br />taken in 1973 and enlarged to a scale of roughly I inch to 600 feet. Irrigated <br /> <br /> <br />areas were verified through field inspection in August 1985. Reference was <br /> <br /> <br />made to maps that were prepared by the La Plata Water Commissioner, Russell <br /> <br />Kennedy, which show the route of the irrigation ditches which were useful in <br /> <br /> <br />identifying the irrigated areas served by each ditch. A summary of the irrigat- <br /> <br /> <br />ed areas served by each ditch is presented in Table 1. The acreage listed in <br /> <br /> <br />the table includes range land that receives irrigation water on a periodic basis <br /> <br /> <br />for the improvement of range pasture grass.
