.

n r1:"':Q1)~
U',)(f\.J.:.,U

.

average monthly crop requirements to determine what portion of the irTigation

water was consumed. Allowances were made in the study to account for the

accumulation of moisture in the soil profile from surplus irTigation, return flows,

and irTigation releases from Mormon Reservoir.

.

Separate operation studies were performed for the irTigated areas along

the La Plata River upstream of the Pioneer and Enterprise ditches, Hay Gulch,

and CherTY Creek. The results of the analyses are set forth below:

.
OveraI I
Average Annua I Average Annual lrTigation
lrTigated Diversion Depletion Efficiency
Area (acres) (acre-feet) (acre-feet) (percent)
. La Plata Mainstem 11,600 13 , 500 9,700 n
Hay Gulch 1,660 4,100 2,800 69
CherTY Creek 1,730 2,600 1,900 n
Totals 14,990 20,200 14,400
.

.

In the operation studies, a basic irTigation efficiency of 60 percent was assumed.

However, because of soil moisture accumulation, the overall efficiencies are

increased to about 70 percent.

.

Irrigation in several of the La Plata River tributaries included supplies

diverted and imported from the mainstem La Plata River. lrTigation in the

Hay Gulch drainage included diversions from the La Plata River by the Hay

Gulch Ditch. Similarly, irTigation in the CherTY Creek basin included diver-

sions from the La Plata River by the La Plata and CherTY Creek Ditch. Reservoir

releases from Mormon Reservoir for irTigation along Hay Gulch and the La

Plata River were included in the analysis based on Water Commissioner's records

of deliveries of reservoir water to the Old Indian, Warren VOSburgh, Revival,

and Joseph Freed ditches. The depletion analysis for the La Plata River did

not include diversions for the Pioneer and Enterprise ditches since these diversions

are located near the State Line. Significant amounts of return flow from irriga-

tion under the Pioneer and Enterprise ditches do not enter the La Plata River

.

.

-12-

.

,,!.lct...i'
