The completion <br />of this contract in November 1933 marked virtual completion of <br />the trunk and tap lines of the District's constrnction telephone <br />system. Later additions consisted of the extension of two circuits <br />westerly from Valverde to Cajalco dam in July 1935, and tap lines <br />to aqueduct camps as new const>'uction was begun. <br /> <br />In July 1938 a switchboard was installed at Berdoo camp, Di- <br />vision 4 headquarters, with direct trunks between it and Banning. <br />The same type of installation was completed in September 1933 to <br />Division 3 headquarters; in January 1934 to Division 1; and in <br />January 1936 to Division 2. The switchboard at Division 3 handled <br />all traffic east of that point unt.il April 4, 1935, when an operator <br />became necessary at Division L The operation of the switchboard <br />at Division 2 was begnn January 22, 1936, Thereafter service was <br />available throughout the system from 8 to 24 hours daily, depend- <br />ing upon the traffic. <br /> <br />On September 13, 1935 a contract was awarded for construction <br />of telephone lines between Boulder dam and the aqueduct pumping <br />plants. Upon completion of these lines in May 1936 connections <br />were made to the existing District system, extending its service <br />area to every working point on the project.
