Colorado Natural Areas Act. <br /> <br />Declares "that certain lands and waters of this state representing <br />diverse ecosystems, ecological communities, and other natural features <br />or phenomena, which are our natural heritage, are increasingly threatened <br />with irreversible change. ..and that it is in the public interest of <br />present and future generations to preserve, protect, perpetuate, and <br />enhance specific examples or these natural features and phenomena as an <br />enduring resource." The Act requires the Department of Natural Resources <br />to establish 1) a systematic inventory of Colorado's qualified natural <br />areas .and a Registry of such areas, 2) criteria by which identified areas <br />can be evaluated, and 3) a system of. designated natural areas from which <br />written agreements have been negotiated between the Department of Natural <br />Resources and the owners (federal; state, local government, or .private). <br />Mandates all state agencies, institutions, and political subdi~isions . <br />to cooperate with the Department for the purpose of the Act. <br /> <br />16 U.S.C. 4601-4 et seq.
