I

REPORT OF THE WATER RESOURCES DIVISION
U. S. Geological Survey
September 14, 1966

Runoff in Colorado has been quite variable during the summer.
Some flood damage occurred in isolated areas where severe thunderstorms
caused local flooding. Water supplies for the first eleven months of
the water year have varied from about 60% of normal to near normal based
on the 30-year reference period, 1931-60.

The following tabulation shows the percentage of normal for
representative gaging stations:

Station % of normal reference oeriod 1931-60
April May June. Additional stations will be installed on
Fish Creek and South Fork Elk River in the Yampa River Basin, Fryingpan
River at Meredith, Colorado River at De Beque. The station on Half Moon
Creek near Malta will he rebuilt to meet the standards for a hydrologic
bench mark. This will include a concrete control with provision for
heating to minimize ice effect during the winter.

Frank Welder of the Ground Water Branch and Gene Shuter of the
Denver Equipment Lab ran four packer tests on the USBM-AEC Colorado
Core Hole No. 2 on Dutch Creek in the Piceance Basin. The tr~nsmissibility
of the fractured oil shale is about 3,300 gallons per day per~foot.
Similar tests are planned on Core Hole No. 1 on Yellow Creek.

L. A. Wood and J, E. Moore were subpoenaed by the State to testify
in the State of Colorado vs. Roger Fellhauer hearing in Pueblo on
August 8-10. District Judge William B. Rhodes upheld the Colorado Water
Law and issued a temporary injunction.
