15S4

its 10,000 acre-feet of additional storage space to Pueblo Board of Water
Works and to the city of Aurora (each purchasing 5,000 acre-feet of storage
space) .

.

H. Project Water Sales and Deliveries

The project made available' 210,000 acre-feet of water to the
district during water year 1984. of' the 37,790 acre-feet of project
releases, 560 acre-feet were municipal' and industrial use. The project
water released from Pueblo Reservoir is shown on exhibit 16.

1. Reservoir Storage Allocation Data

Table 8 presents the reservoir storage allocation data for the
project's five reservoirs.

J. Flood Control Benefits

During water year 1984, there was one occurrence in which Pueblo
Dam was used to control flow in the Arkansas River and one occurrence in
which Ruedi Dam was used to control flow in the Fryingpan River.

The flood control at Pueblo Dam be9an on August 20 when the state of Colorado's
Division of Water Resources office requested the project reduce the release
to control the flow on the Arkansas Rive~ at Avondale. The stored water was
released beginning on August 24. The U'.S. Corps of Engineers estimate the
flood control benefits to be $1,039,000 as a result of this reservoir
operation.

.

The flood control at Ruedi Dam began in early June when the outflow from the
reservoir was controlled by storing water in the reservoir and by diverting
water from the Fryingpan River Basin to, the Arkansas River Basin. Without
regulation at Ruedi Dam and diversion c~pabilities into the Arkansas River,
flows in the Fryingpan River below Ruedi Dam would have been more than
doubled until the middle of July. The ~.S. Corps of Engineers estimate the
flood control benefits to be $330,000, as a result of these operations,

Table 9 shows the flood control benefits received on both Ruedi and Pueblo
Dams.

IV. OPERATION PLAN FOR WATER YEAR 1985

A. General

Detailed monthly operation studies have been made for the four
reservoirs in the project system which simulate the proposed operation for
water year 1985.

In preparing the operation studies, flexibility has been allowed for changes
in the inflow or outflow as conditions w~rrant. Forecasts of the April

14

.
