?oudre Study

Dc,lr Fred:

Dave Walker of the Colorado viater Conservation
Board was gooo enough to come to Fort Colli.ns to talk
with the Fort. Collins Water Board and City Council
concerning the Cacl18 LGi Poudre Study. During the course
of the conversation, it became clear that the Council
and Water Board rather strongly feel that tne preliminary
st.udy will bu of no be::n0f it. unless it consioCJr s some
of the al terna ti.ves which might be available to the Grey
1-lountain dam and reservoir. The reason for' this is that
the community is tending to become polarized on the
1.SSUC. The expressed feeling was that unless the
<tlternatives are also considered no study concerning
the Grey ~lountain ;noject can possibly find wide-spread
acceptance within the corr~unity. The consensus was that
only by examining all potential alternatives could an
ultimate conclusion a:o; to which one to build be given
any credence.

,"1r. Walker observed that he felt that the
Colorado Wat.er Conservation Board, who was responsible
for the study, was under rather strict legislative
direction to limit the study, thus precluding the
cOJ1!:i.ideration of t.hese alt.ernatives. We understand his
posit.ion. Because we [eel that t.he mattel- is so important,
1 was requested 'Ico '-lee whether or not I might be able
to arrange a meeting involving yourself, the other
legislators des:i.qn.,t'.,d on this lette!):, and the various
city representat.,v'.'.., d.lso ~;O ~;i9nated. If this meeting
could be held in F;.,rL Co.l1il15 and if it would be a convenient
time, the city wouid be delighted to furnish lunch; and
most city representatj, ves could meet almost any day
except on Tuesday.
