<br /> <br />ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ON WATER QUALITY <br />IN PACIFIC SOUTHWEST <br />INTER-AGENCY COMMITTEE AR~A, 1950-63. <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />f. <br /> <br />This bibliography has been compiled for Federal, State, and local <br />resources planning and development agencies. It wil I serve as an index <br />of significant reports directed to specific water-quality problems and <br />a catalog of reports presenting data, results, and conclusions on <br />water-quality conditions within the Pacific Southwest Inter-Agency <br />Committee area. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Water quality is construed for the purposes of this report to <br />encompass the chemical, physical, radiological, and biological <br />characteristics of ground and surface water supplies and of waste waters. <br /> <br />The bibliography includes published and unpublished reports on <br />water quality which have been issued by Federal, State, and local agencies <br />and by, educational institutions during the period January I, 1950 through <br />December 31, 1960. A few particularly noteworthy reports prior to 1950 <br />are cited when such represent a significant contribution to water quality <br />knowledge in the region. The bibliography also includes entries of data <br />compilations and data reports which are part of a regular series such as <br />the annual water-quality reports of the Geological Surveyor the Public <br />Hea I th Service.. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />Articles and reports presenting research findings or dealing with <br />water-quality criteria are omitted from th,e bibliography. Also excluded <br />are reports on methodology or techniques pertaining to water quality, <br />research papers on basic water properties, and reports on treatment <br />practices, either of water or of wastes. No reports dealing with effects <br />of water quality on aquatic life, animals, or humans, or with water- <br />quality tolerances for domestic, agricultural or industrial uses are <br />included. Sedimentation aspects are excluded. Unpublished records of an <br />"administrative" character are also not included. <br /> <br />Indexed reports are arranged in a numbered chronological listing of <br />publications and then cross-referenced (using its preceding number) by <br />geographical areas and also by primary subject matter. The smal lest <br />geographic areas listed in the index are States. River basins are <br />broken down into subbasins in comformi ty with the River Basin Maps <br />compiled under the auspices of the Inter-Agency Committee on Water <br />Resources, Subcommittee of Hydrology (Hydrologic Activities Bul I. No. I I), <br />Apri I 1961.
